Our Vision

We work to ensure older people are fully recognised in society, and are supported and enabled to live well in an all-age friendly and all-age inclusive Commonwealth.

Our Mission

  • To promote and disseminate learning, experience and best practice in aged care services design, development, provision and assurance throughout the Commonwealth with the purpose of improving the quality of life for older citizens in Commonwealth member countries.
  • Building close links between members of the aged care sectors in Commonwealth member countries and facilitating professional contacts between providers, governments, suppliers to the sector, academic institutions and students;
  • Encouraging the creation of national professional aged care service associations in Commonwealth member countries where none exist;
  • Fostering high standards of professional education in aged care services;
  • Promoting high standards of professional conduct amongst providers;
  • Developing high standards of practice in all areas of aged care including retirement housing, residential care, nursing care, assisted living, community care, dementia care, allied health services, palliative and end of life care.
  • Holding and supporting relevant international conferences;
  • Facilitating the dissemination of knowledge and information about housing and services for the ageing;
  • Fostering high standards of quality in service delivery, wherever appropriate by professional means, and to that end encouraging suitable regulatory legislation and its implementation in Commonwealth member countries;
  • Promoting and supporting staff exchanges between providers and facilitating the migration of professional aged care staff between Commonwealth member countries;
  • Supporting the development of common aged care and housing qualification standards throughout Commonwealth member countries; and liaising and building partnerships with similar associations or allied health professional groups within and outside the Commonwealth to assist in attaining the above objectives.

Our Success Stories

From Bursary Recipient to Chapter Head: A CommonAge Success Story!

Prof. Magen Mutepfa, Head of our Botswana Country Chapter, was awarded the prestigious 2023 travel bursary funded by the UKRI Healthy Ageing Challenge. She is a professor at the University of Botswana, co-founder of Ageless Inspirations, Botswana and is a Liaison officer for Pass It On Network.

Free Training Programme for Elder Care at Durban, June 2024

Train the Trainer Programme at Durban, South Africa: A first-time initiative, of a free training programme for those delivering elder care in developing countries was launched in Durban. This was a collaborative effort between CommonAge and TAFTA and conducted by Fulbright Scholar, Dr Renu Abraham Varughese.

Francis Njuakom Nchii, Bursary Recipient Transforms Lives in Cameroon

In 2015, our bursary enabled Francis Njuakom Nchii, founder and CEO of CDVTA, to attend the Global Ageing Network’s biennial conference, where he connected with Jack York of Talegate. A simple $500 donation from Jack sparked the creation of "The Jack York Elderly Women’s Sustainable Goat Rearing Project" in Cameroon.
