Healthy Ageing in the Commonwealth webinar

Held Tuesday 13 September 2022

#HealthyAgeing #Commonwealth

Population ageing affects all Commonwealth states. Even in countries with predominantly young populations, people are living longer and are developing more complex health and social needs as they age.

However, as long as they remain healthy and well, they also have the capacity to contribute wisdom, skills and experience to their communities.

As well as healthy ageing improving quality of life for individuals, we support the view that a healthy ageing population is much less expensive for governments to support, and therefore is less of a burden on taxpayers and health systems.

In our webinar held on Tuesday, 13 September 2022, delegates heard from internationally recognised speakers, outlining healthy ageing progress to date, highlighting the challenges and achievements, and showcasing examples of healthy ageing in action.

There was also a panel session at the end.

Free to watch (recording below), this webinar is for care and senior living professionals and volunteers, government organisations, and anyone else with an interest in healthy ageing.

People are living longer across the entire Commonwealth, providing significant opportunities for people of all ages. A world that is adapted to longer lifespans is one based on inclusive societies where generations work together to create peace and harmony, talents are harnessed, and skills and knowledge are transferred across all age groups.

The Commonwealth has the potential to show leadership by making older people an integral part of its work and helping its Member States to improve public policy, strengthen their laws, and ensure programme services that are fit for people of all ages. This would reduce the vulnerability many older people experience, help eliminate discrimination and ageism, and release the potential that comes with recognising the rights and contributions of older people.
