Kenya is to get its first private care home thanks to our Ambassador in Kenya, James Mbatia Kinuthia.
James, the Founder of SJ Remedial Care Homes has been a pioneer and healthy ageing advocate for over 20 years in Africa’s Social Care Sector, so we were delighted to offer him a our QCS bursary to attend our inaugural Commonwealth Elders Forum in 2018,
Here he met Jane Verity, Founder and CEO of Dementia Care International, and Hilary Lee, President of Dementia Care International.
The Spark of Life Philosophy and implementation of the best practice Spark of Life Model of Care, is a specialised education and training programme run by Australian-based Dementia Care International and it is having a positive impact on those living with dementia and delivering unprecedented benefits for all involved.
Since the training went online, James Mbatia Kinuthia was able to attend the Master Leadership Program, and is now implementing the Model of Care in his care home and community service.
In this recent interview with Lucy Mworia, he explains more about his work with older people and care homes in Kenya, and the exciting new plans to open the first private care home in Kenya.
