CommonAge scholarship delegate Nathalie Henry from Mauritius,

Mauritius delegate Nathalie Henry will be joining other CommonAge scholarship delegates at the IAHSA/ACSA conference, 30 August – 3 September in Perth. Ms Henry is the manager of a 100-bed medical nursing home which also has a private clinic. As the only one of its kind in Mauritius, it is revolutionising the way in which aged care is delivered on the island.

One of the challenges Ms Henry faces is Mauritius’ many cultures, each with their own beliefs, values customs and traditions. Being the general manager means she has to be very aware of those differences and beliefs, especially since the different cultures rarely intermingle.

Another challenge faced by the industry in Mauritius is there is no formal training in aged care offered by educational establishments. This means that those who work in the arena rely totally on management training, field experience, and learning and progressing by other means.

Ms Henry has many years of aged care experience behind her and has helped established two other nursing homes which are today the references in aged care in Mauritius.

“This unbelievable opportunity that has been given to me by Commonage; it will not only help me grow and learn new things but will help my entire country as I will be passing on all of this new information to many other professionals in my field.

Looking forward to my Australian adventure and to meeting my fellow professionals,” she says.
